Students have the opportunity to attend the national AAEP Convention every fall. The AAEP is unique from other veterinary organizations in that they have a very active student program, and every year the convention features Student Programs that are specifically designed for veterinary students. We are able to alleviate some of the costs to attend thanks to the help of our generous sponsors, such as Michigan Veterinary Medical Association, AAEP, and Michigan Equine Practitioners Association.
In order to receive funding to attend the AAEP Convention, students must submit an application consisting of their personal statement and list of Equine Club involvement. Applications will be reviewed and selected by the Club’s Faculty Advisors and one Executive Board Member. Every year, the AAEP sponsors a short course for its student members. Courses in the past have included farrier skills, dentistry, and handling. AAEP members get a deduction on their dues for the year. They also get the opportunity to do an AAEP short course in the spring semester. Members also recieve two magazines in the mail: Horse and Equus which are wonderful reading and learning material. |
